PPL Product Recommendations for product-page and add-to-cart recommendation surfaces.
PPL Product Recommendations for Magento 2
PPL Product Recommendations adds relevance-scored recommendation surfaces to the storefront: a product-page block and an add-to-cart drawer. Recommendations are built from a configurable engine that blends a co-purchase index, native Magento product links, category similarity, attribute/price similarity and a popularity fallback, with per-source weights.
What It Adds
- Product-page recommendation block with configurable title, item count and position
- Add-to-cart drawer that opens after a successful AJAX add-to-cart, with an optional recommendation slider (own title, checkout button label and item count)
- Recommendation engine combining several sources with configurable weights and a minimum score:
- Co-purchase index built from orders within a rolling lookback window (minimum co-purchase support)
- Native Magento related / up-sell / cross-sell links
- Category-overlap similarity
- Attribute and price-band similarity points (e.g. same manufacturer, target group, similar price)
- Industry "goes-with" affinity lists driven by the active Search Intelligence vertical
- Popularity fallback
- Exclusion rules for out-of-stock products and products already in the cart
- Admin dashboard with a live recommendation preview
- Optional debug reasons (score components) in the recommendation JSON for local verification
Requirements And Dependencies
- PHP: >=8.1
- Magento packages: magento/framework, magento/module-backend, magento/module-catalog, magento/module-catalog-widget, magento/module-checkout, magento/module-inventory-sales-api, magento/module-inventory-sales, magento/module-config, magento/module-customer, magento/module-sales, magento/module-store, magento/module-wishlist
- PPL packages: ppl/module-hub
Installation
Composer installation:
composer require ppl/module-product-recommendations
bin/magento module:enable Ppl_Hub Ppl_ProductRecommendations
bin/magento setup:upgrade
bin/magento setup:di:compile
bin/magento cache:flush
Manual app/code installation: copy the module to app/code/Ppl/ProductRecommendations, install the dependencies listed above, then run the same Magento commands without the Composer step.
First Use
- Install Ppl_Hub and enable the module.
- Enable the master switch under Product Recommendations, then enable the product-page block and/or the add-to-cart drawer.
- Review the engine, source weights and similarity settings; the defaults are a safe starting point.
- Build the co-purchase index once (CLI command below) or let the scheduled job run, then open the admin dashboard preview.
Admin entry: PPL Hub > Product Recommendations.
Configuration
Configuration is available under PPL Hub > Product Recommendations (Stores > Configuration > PPL > Product Recommendations):
- General - master switch and optional debug reasons in AJAX responses.
- Product Page - enable the block, title, maximum items and block position.
- Add-to-cart Drawer - enable the drawer and its recommendation slider, titles, checkout button label and maximum items.
- Recommendation Engine - order lookback days, minimum co-purchase count, minimum score, source toggles and stock/cart exclusions.
- Source Weights - co-purchase, native link, category-overlap and popularity weights.
- Similarity Points - matching attributes and per-attribute points, price band and points, and industry "goes-with" affinity points.
Command Line
bin/magento ppl:productrecommendations:rebuild- rebuild the co-purchase index from recent orders.
Scheduled Tasks
ppl_productrecommendations_rebuild- rebuilds the co-purchase index (hourly).
Integrations And Boundaries
- Requires only Ppl_Hub for the shared admin navigation; it does not depend on any PPL search or filter module.
- The industry "goes-with" affinity lists use the active Search Intelligence vertical when present and stay inert otherwise.
- Optionally consumes recommendation interaction signals from Ppl_Tracking in a later phase; it does not depend on it.
Localization
The package includes translation CSV files for 12 locales: de_DE, en_US, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT, ja_JP, nl_NL, pl_PL, pt_BR, ru_RU, tr_TR, zh_CN.
Customer Documentation
Customer-facing User Guides and Marketplace Long Descriptions are maintained outside the Magento module package in the repository-level documentation folders. The module package itself intentionally keeps only this technical README plus developer-relevant files.
Support
Support contact: [email protected]. Include the module version, Magento version, enabled PPL companion modules, and the relevant admin or storefront screenshot when reporting an issue.

Compatibility
Each Magento release line is installed on its supported PHP versions, then the module is built (DI compilation + static-content deploy) and its unit and integration suites are run. The matrix shows the lines and PHP versions the module is confirmed to install and run on. Code-quality results further down (phpstan, phpcs, …) are reported separately and never affect compatibility.
Code Quality
Advisory checks against the module's source. Static analysis runs once across the whole module; PHPStan re-runs per Magento + PHP version because resolvable symbols differ between releases. These NEVER affect the Compatibility badge. A phpcs finding can't make a module incompatible.
Static analysis
Coding standards (phpcs), mess detection (phpmd), copy-pasted code (cpd), PHP cross-version compatibility, composer.json validity. Each runs once for the whole module.
PHPStan
Type-checks the module's PHP against a real Magento install at the configured gate level. Re-runs per Magento and PHP version because resolvable symbols differ between releases.
Tests
Unit and integration suites, run for each applicable Magento and PHP version. A test failure speaks to the module's behaviour, not its compatibility with a Magento line, so it is reported here separately and never reddens the compatibility matrix.
Unit tests
Integration tests
| Magento | PHP 8.2 | PHP 8.3 | PHP 8.4 | PHP 8.5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4.7 | N/A | N/A | ||
| 2.4.8 | N/A | N/A | ||
| 2.4.9 | N/A | N/A |
Security
Security checks run directly against the module: an audit of its declared dependencies for known vulnerabilities (composer audit) and a scan of its source for malware and web-shell signatures. Each runs once. A malware detection fails the version outright.
